ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I have been painting for many years, exhibiting at The Royal Glasgow Institute, Paris, Brighton, and in Sussex at the Open Arts Exhibition and for the Sussex Heritage Trust.
My early work began when I attended the Manchester School of Art and later as a part-time student at the Glasgow School of Art. My paintings are impressionistic in execution and are often based on the unique West of Scotland land and seascapes; more recently, views of Sussex and from travels abroad. The paintings are often emptied of human activity concentrating on the natural landscape.
I see painting as an emotional response to nature. I'm interested in colour and texture and I paint with energy nearly always to music and it has been interesting to see how different music has influenced my paintings. I work from my own source material, either sketches or photographs.
